Jaranwala: The Punjab government is set to launch the Orange Line Metro Project in Faisalabad, featuring 27 metro buses and two trams running along a 20-kilometre route from Faisal Town on Jaranwala Road to Tahirpur on Jhang Road. Chief Minister Mariam Nawaz is expected to perform the groundbreaking for the project in the coming days.
The project was discussed in a meeting presided over by Member Punjab Mass Transit Authority and former Chief Secretary Capt (retd) Zahid Saeed, along with Commissioner Faisalabad Raja Jahangir Anwar. Officials confirmed that the PC-1 of the mega project has been approved. The Orange Line will feature 22 stations, two depots, and six U-turns along the route.

Authorities instructed WASA, FESCO, Sui Gas, PHA, Municipal Corporation, and Traffic Police to begin shifting utility services in line with the project’s alignment. A follow-up meeting will be held next week to finalize timelines for these adjustments.
Officials highlighted that the Orange Line Metro service will significantly improve daily commuting for residents, with thousands expected to benefit from the new transport option. Citizens living near the route will be informed in advance about temporary service closures during utility relocation.
Deputy Commissioner Nadeem Nasir, MD of the Mass Transit Authority, and officers from relevant departments also attended the meeting, emphasizing coordinated efforts for smooth execution of the project.
