Gwadar: The construction of Gwadar Eastbay Expressway Phase II, connecting the New Gwadar International Airport (NGIA) to Gwadar Port, has been officially approved, news sources reported.
The decision was made during the 8th Joint Working Group (JWG) on Gwadar under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) held last week. Under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP), the federal government has allocated PKR 200 million for the project.

With an estimated cost of PKR 30.13 billion, 95% of the funding will come from a Chinese grant-in-aid under CPEC. The China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd (CHEC) will construct the 13.8-kilometre, six-lane dual carriageway. The plan also includes supporting infrastructure such as a toll plaza, drainage, lighting, fencing, and security towers.
Once complete, the expressway will provide a direct, high-speed cargo route from the NGIA to the existing Eastbay Expressway, significantly boosting Gwadar’s port logistics and operations.
Phase I of the Eastbay Expressway, a 19-kilometre six-lane road, was completed and inaugurated on June 3, 2022, serving as the main artery for port traffic and connecting Gwadar Port to major highways under CPEC.
