Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Maryam Nawaz Sharif has launched five major road projects under the Punjab Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Authority, transferring their management and operations to the private sector to improve maintenance and service delivery. The news surfaced on October 5.

The projects are expected to generate around PKR 22 billion in revenue for the provincial government. The list includes the 80-kilometre Muridke-Narowal Road, 33-kilometre Shakargarh-Narowal Road, 97-kilometre Faisalabad Ring Road, 52-kilometre Faisalabad-Sahianwala Road and 56-kilometre Faisalabad-Samundri-Rajana Road.
Under the PPP arrangement, private operators will manage toll collection through electronic toll plazas linked with the National Highway Authority (NHA) system and will also be responsible for road maintenance, repair and rehabilitation for seven years.

The Punjab government also announced plans to shift additional roads, including Bahawalpur-Yazman Road, Yazman-Ahmedpur East Road, Raiwind-Changa Manga Road and Gajjumata-Kasur Road, to the PPP framework. The PPP Authority is also working on projects across sectors including transport, healthcare, education, tourism, waste management and urban facilities.
