Islamabad: The Standing Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunication on Wednesday reviewed the progress of the Islamabad IT Park project and urged the Ministry to establish technology parks in smaller cities to promote industrialisation and economic growth across the country.
The meeting was chaired by Syed Amin ul Haq. Members were informed that the Islamabad IT Park, initially scheduled for completion by October 31, 2025, is now expected to be completed by December 31, 2025, as 80 percent of the work has been completed so far. The delay was attributed to changes in the contractor and consultant from Korea, which affected the project’s pace.

The Ministry told the Committee that the Prime Minister had issued clear directives to ensure the project is completed within the current year. In addition, interest-free loans are being provided to support the establishment of special technology parks in smaller cities through the private sector, aiming to facilitate local entrepreneurs and investors while promoting technology-based industries in underdeveloped regions.
During the meeting, the Committee also endorsed the report presented by a Sub-Committee under Zulfiqar Ali Bhatti and directed the Ministry to implement its recommendations strictly. The Committee decided to defer the discussion on “The Prevention of Obscenity and Indecency in Digital Media Bill, 2025” to its next session, as the mover of the Bill was not present.
