Peshawar: Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Afridi has directed officials to prepare a comprehensive framework for interest-free loans aimed at supporting media production and broadcasting setups, alongside plans for media colonies and upgradation of press clubs.
The directive was issued during a high-level meeting chaired by the chief minister to review the Annual Development Programme (ADP) for the fiscal year 2026-27.
According to details shared from the meeting, the proposed initiative seeks to facilitate young journalists in establishing their own media ventures by providing access to interest-free financial support. Officials were instructed to develop a structured scheme that would enable self-employment opportunities within the media sector.
The chief minister said the initiative would help strengthen journalists by improving their financial independence and allowing them to carry out their professional responsibilities with greater autonomy.

“Young journalists must have access to resources to become self-reliant and establish their own media ventures,” Afridi said while issuing the directions.
The meeting also reviewed proposed development projects across multiple sectors, including Information and Public Relations, Information Technology, Science and Technology, Law, Mines and Minerals, and Labour. Broader discussions were held on employment generation, institutional reforms, and provincial development priorities.
In addition to the loan scheme, the chief minister directed officials to formulate detailed proposals for the establishment of media colonies for journalists and the upgradation of press clubs in the merged districts, aimed at improving working conditions and professional infrastructure for media workers across the province.
