Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced that new road development projects across the province will include a modern traffic management system along with the installation of solar-powered streetlights as part of a broader infrastructure upgrade initiative.
According to official details, more than 30,000 kilometres of roads have been constructed, repaired, or rehabilitated across Punjab under the ongoing development programme. The initiative is aimed at modernising the province’s transport network and improving road connectivity in both urban and rural areas.
The chief minister stated that work under the “CM Local Roads Programme” is progressing at a rapid pace in multiple districts. She directed relevant authorities to ensure strict adherence to timelines, quality standards, and transparency in all ongoing and upcoming road construction and rehabilitation projects.
Maryam Nawaz described the initiative as a major effort to upgrade Punjab’s infrastructure, noting that multi-billion-rupee development projects have been launched to facilitate safer, smoother, and more efficient travel for citizens.

She also directed that lane and line discipline be strictly enforced in Lahore and other major cities, emphasizing improved compliance with traffic regulations as part of broader urban management reforms.
In addition, transport infrastructure and bus stop development projects have been approved for several major cities, including Faisalabad, Gujrat, Gujranwala, Rawalpindi, and Multan. These projects aim to improve public transport facilities and enhance commuter convenience.
The chief minister further highlighted that mass transit projects are underway in Faisalabad and Gujranwala to provide modern and efficient public transport systems. She also confirmed the restoration of major highways in Murree under the “Restoration of Roads” programme, which has improved travel conditions for both tourists and local residents.
As part of future planning, all newly constructed roads will be equipped with solar-powered streetlights to promote energy efficiency and sustainable infrastructure development across the province.
