Islamabad: The Central Development Working Party (CDWP) has approved and recommended 5 development schemes with a combined estimated cost of more than PKR 60 billion, covering transport, urban infrastructure, water supply, healthcare and education.
As reported by a source on August 31, the projects were reviewed at a meeting chaired by Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal. Three schemes valued at around PKR 11.7 billion received approval from the CDWP, while two projects costing approximately PKR48.545 billion were referred to the Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) for further consideration. The infrastructure portfolio includes a road development scheme in Orakzai, aimed at strengthening connectivity and improving access within the region.
In Karachi, the PKR 19.55 billion Karachi Neighbourhood Improvement Project (KNIP) is focused on upgrading urban infrastructure and municipal services in selected areas. The project is being supported through World Bank financing and is nearing completion.
Water infrastructure also featured prominently in the meeting, with approval of a scheme to supply Gwadar with water from Mirani Dam through a 125-kilometre pipeline. The project is intended to improve the availability and reliability of water supplies for the port city. The CDWP also directed authorities to undertake a detailed assessment for a wastewater treatment facility in Gwadar. The proposed intervention is aimed at improving wastewater management and addressing the environmental implications of untreated discharge.
