Karachi: The Karachi IT Park is expected to create around 15,000 jobs and generate up to USD 100 million in annual ICT exports once operational, according to a news source on September 24.
According to Federal Planning Minister Ahsan Iqbal, the project, developed by the Pakistan Software Export Board (PSEB) near Jinnah International Airport, is planned as a technology hub providing infrastructure and workspace for IT companies, start-ups and other technology-focused businesses.
The facility will cover approximately 1.18 million square feet and is planned to include 220 offices, 30 start-up spaces, incubation and co-working facilities, a data centre and research and innovation spaces.
The IT Park is intended to support sectors including artificial intelligence, cloud computing, cybersecurity, fintech, data analytics and other emerging technologies, while facilitating collaboration among businesses, start-ups, research institutions and academia.
The project is currently under construction, according to the Special Technology Zones Authority (STZA). It has a planned covered area of approximately 1.145 million square feet across six acres. It is being developed at a total estimated cost of USD 186.658 million, with financing from the Korean EDCF and the Government of Pakistan. The Karachi IT Park forms part of broader efforts to expand Pakistan’s digital infrastructure, support technology businesses and increase ICT export capacity.
