Islamabad: The Capital Development Authority (CDA) is considering the introduction of a double-decker electric bus service for city tours in Islamabad, as reported by a news source on September 18.
According to officials, the CDA has approached Heavy Industries Taxila (HIT) to assess the feasibility and estimated cost of procuring the buses. The authority is initially considering a fleet of four buses for a 25-kilometre city-tour route.
The proposed route would start from F-9 Park and cover prominent locations, including Faisal Mosque, Lok Virsa and Shakarparian. CDA officials said the authority is awaiting technical input from HIT before proceeding with the procurement process. While locally manufactured buses are being considered, the CDA may also explore imports, including from China, depending on the feasibility assessment.
The proposed buses are expected to be electric, in line with the authority’s existing efforts to expand electric public transport in Islamabad. The CDA currently operates an electric bus network through a contractor across more than 20 routes, with a fleet of over 160 buses. The double-decker service remains at the planning stage, with the CDA indicating that it could become operational within three months if the procurement and related processes proceed as planned.
