Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government will establish an Artificial Intelligence (AI) Authority to accelerate the adoption of emerging technologies, promote AI research and innovation, and create new opportunities for the province’s youth.
Chief Minister Sohail Afridi announced the initiative during a digital media meetup and interactive session at the Institute of Management Sciences in Peshawar, held in connection with the provincial universities ranking initiative.
Afridi said the provincial government is making significant investments in digital skills, technology and quality education to equip young people with the capabilities needed to compete in a knowledge-based global economy.

He added that the Ehsaas Naujawan Programme continues to provide interest-free loans to young entrepreneurs, while dedicated funding has also been allocated to support women and members of minority communities in expanding their economic participation.
The chief minister also said the government has allocated PKR 5 billion in the current fiscal year’s budget to enrol out-of-school children in the formal education system.
He added that the KP Open Wi-Fi initiative is being rolled out in phases across Peshawar and divisional headquarters and will later be extended to the merged tribal districts to improve digital connectivity and access to online learning and economic opportunities.
Afridi said the provincial government remains committed to strengthening education, digital infrastructure and innovation to support sustainable economic growth and expand opportunities for the province’s youth.
