Peshawar: Chief Minister Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohammad Suhail Afridi, has approved the Digital Payments Act 2025, following its clearance by the provincial cabinet. The law makes KP the first province in Pakistan to introduce a formal legal framework for the digital economy.
According to a statement issued by the CM Secretariat, the Act is expected to advance financial inclusion, transparency, and economic modernization across the province. It aims to facilitate cashless transactions, improve access to digital financial services, and promote economic efficiency at all levels.

Under the new framework, the provincial government will provide public Wi-Fi and other digital services in markets to ease transactions and onboarding for businesses and citizens. The Act also includes initiatives to integrate financial and digital literacy into the educational curriculum to support long-term adoption of digital payments.
Officials highlighted that the implementation will be carried out at the district level, ensuring accessibility and convenience for residents across KP. The Act positions the province as a model for a cashless economy, guiding federal and other provincial initiatives in the digital finance sector.
