Rawalpindi: The Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA) has issued show-cause notices to the owners and developers of 13 illegal and unapproved housing schemes and land subdivisions for allegedly carrying out unauthorised development, plot bookings and advertising.
The notices were issued by the Metropolitan Planning and Traffic Engineering (MP&TE) Directorate of the RDA.
According to the authority, the schemes and subdivisions were operating in violation of Section 12(5) of the Punjab Development of Cities Act, 1976, and Rule 4 of the Punjab Development Authorities Private Housing Scheme Rules, 2021.
The RDA directed the owners and developers to immediately stop development work, advertising, and the sale and purchase of plots. They have also been asked to submit their responses within seven days of receiving the notices.
The authority warned that failure to respond could lead to further legal action under the prevailing laws and rules. The RDA also advised the public against investing in illegal or unapproved housing schemes and urged potential buyers to verify the approval status of housing projects before making any investment.
It further warned the sponsors of unapproved schemes to stop marketing their projects and obtain the required approvals and no-objection certificates (NOCs) in accordance with the law. The authority said daily penalties ranging from PKR 5,000 to PKR 20,000 could also be imposed under Section 37 of the Punjab Development of Cities Act, 1976, depending on the size of the scheme.
RDA Director General Salman Ghani directed the MP&TE Directorate to continue action against illegal and unauthorised housing schemes and other unlawful activities.
