Karachi: Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab has launched a PKR 2 billion development package for the Sindh Industrial Trading Estate (SITE) area to rehabilitate industrial infrastructure and improve essential municipal services.
The package includes the rehabilitation of key roads and corridors, drainage and sewerage systems, green belts and other civic infrastructure in the industrial area.
Speaking at the foundation stone-laying ceremony, Wahab said the rehabilitation of Karachi’s industrial areas was a priority, as a stronger industrial sector was essential for economic growth and the city’s role as a major economic and export hub.
He said the Sindh government had approved and released around PKR 9.5 billion for the rehabilitation of industrial areas across Karachi. The funds are being provided through trade and industrial associations, allowing them to identify priority development works based on the needs of their respective areas.
Wahab said the new approach was aimed at reducing procedural delays and ensuring that development works were implemented according to the requirements of each industrial zone.
The initiative is part of broader efforts by the provincial and local governments to address infrastructure challenges in Karachi’s industrial areas and improve facilities for businesses.
