Lahore: The Water and Power Development Authority (WAPDA) and the Diamer district administration have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to implement livelihood schemes worth PKR 972.571 million in the Diamer Bhasha Dam project area under the project’s Confidence Building Measures (CBMs).
The agreement was signed by Diamer Bhasha Dam Project General Manager and Project Director Dr Engr Nazakat Hussain and Deputy Commissioner Diamer Lt (Retd) Muhammad Owais Abbasi in the presence of Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Secretary Arshad Majeed, WAPDA said on Thursday.
Under the MoU, the livelihood schemes will be implemented through the relevant line departments under the supervision of the district administration and in consultation with local communities.

A joint committee comprising representatives of the district administration, WAPDA and the local community will oversee the implementation of the schemes and monitor the quality of work.
According to WAPDA, PKR 78.5 billion has been allocated for the socio-economic development of communities in the Diamer Bhasha Dam project area.
The authority said several major development projects have already been completed under the initiative, including the Thore Hydel Power Station, Thak Hydel Power Station and Cadet College Chilas, as part of broader efforts to improve infrastructure and livelihoods in the region.
