Gwadar: The Balochistan government has begun work on a low-cost housing scheme in Gwadar to provide affordable homes for low-income fishermen, with land demarcation for the project now underway.
The demarcation process began on July 8 under the supervision of the district administration following directions from the Gwadar Development Authority (GDA).
Earlier this year, the provincial government allocated more than 200 acres of land for the project, which is estimated to cost PKR 2.44 billion. The site is located near the junction of Jiwani and Awaran avenues, close to the Gwadar Sports Complex.
Under the scheme, authorities plan to develop 2,970 residential plots, each measuring 120 square yards, for eligible fishermen.
A joint team comprising officials from the GDA, district administration and police is carrying out surveys and installing boundary markers to complete the demarcation process. Authorities are also inspecting the site for encroachments and have directed illegal occupants of government land to vacate the area, warning that legal action may be taken against those who fail to comply.
The GDA said the project forms part of Gwadar’s master plan and is intended to improve housing conditions for low-income fishing communities while supporting the city’s planned urban development.
