Islamabad: Oil and Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant oil and gas discovery at its exploratory well, Baragzai X-01 (Slant), located in the Nashpa Block, Kohat district, Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa.
The well is currently producing 2,280 barrels of oil per day (BPD) and 5.6 million standard cubic feet of gas per day (MMSCFD). This marks the first hydrocarbon discovery from the Kingriali Formation in the region.
The Baragzai X-01 well was spud on December 24, 2024, and drilled to a depth of 5,170 meters into the Kingriali Formation. OGDCL operates the Nashpa Exploration Licence in partnership with its joint venture partners.

OGDCL officials stated that the discovery opens new opportunities for further exploration in the area, which could help mitigate Pakistan’s energy supply–demand gap through indigenous resources. The find is expected to contribute significantly to the country’s hydrocarbon reserves and bolster the national energy sector.
The company said the successful drilling of Baragzai X-01 represents an important step forward in Pakistan’s energy development, de-risking deeper exploration in the region and strengthening the reserves of OGDCL, its partners, and the nation.
