Islamabad: The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (ECNEC) on Tuesday approved two major road projects aimed at improving connectivity and supporting development in Balochistan.
The committee approved the construction of a 103-kilometre road from Zhob to Mukhtar Barsta Murgha Kabza and a 105-kilometre road from Duki to Chamalang. These projects are expected to enhance regional accessibility, facilitate trade, and create employment opportunities in the province.
The meeting, chaired by Deputy Prime Minister Ishaq Dar via video link, was attended by Minister for Planning and Development Ahsan Iqbal, Balochistan’s Minister for Irrigation Mir Muhammad Sadiq Umrani, and other senior officials.

ECNEC also approved the revised Balochistan Livelihood and Internship Project, which aims to improve income-generation opportunities and skill development for local communities.
Additionally, the committee reviewed progress, expenditure, and challenges in ongoing development projects across the country. Officials briefed participants on a separate initiative — Access and Distribution of Quality Education in Balochistan — designed to improve early childhood and primary education through public-private partnerships and emergency response mechanisms.
The five-year education project seeks to enhance literacy levels by ensuring access to quality learning facilities and resources in underserved areas.
ECNEC directed the concerned departments to ensure timely completion of all approved projects while maintaining high standards of quality and transparency in development works.
