Lahore: Water and Power Development Authority (Wapda) Chairman Muzammil Hussain has said that there is huge potential for international investors once the development of the Diamer Bhasha Dam and Mohmand Dam have been completed — as the significance of these projects for Pakistan’s water, energy and food sectors cannot be overstated, a news source reported.
Chairman Hussain expressed these views during a meeting with the delegations of the Kuwait Development Fund and Islamic Development Bank at Wapda House. He briefed the attendees that Wapda had completed several mega projects in the past with the help of international funding agencies. These included Neelam Jhelum Power Plant, Golan Gol Hydropower Plant and the Tarbela Extension project.
Chairman Wapda expressed his hope that the Kuwait Development Fund and Islamic Development Bank would provide the financial help required to complete these projects. In reply, the head of the delegation representing the Kuwait Development Fund Dr Muhammad Saddiqi said that their bank was willing to fund the project, while the Islamic Development Fund’s representative added that helping Pakistan to deal with its energy crises was one of the bank’s top priorities.
