Islamabad: Interior Minister Mohsin Naqvi on Sunday chaired a three-hour meeting at the Capital Development Authority (CDA) Headquarters to review development projects in the federal capital, with a focus on preparations for the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit 2027, which Pakistan will host.
The meeting, attended by Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry, Secretary Interior Muhammad Khurram Agha, and senior CDA officials, centred on infrastructure upgrades and urban improvements to prepare Islamabad for the high-profile international gathering.
It was decided in principle to construct an additional convention hall adjacent to the Jinnah Convention Centre. The new facility will feature a spacious main hall, multiple conference rooms, and meeting spaces designed to meet international standards. Naqvi said both local and international architects would be engaged to ensure a modern, globally competitive design.

“The SCO Summit presents Pakistan with an opportunity to showcase its capital as a modern, well-organized and welcoming host city,” Naqvi said, stressing that the new infrastructure would strengthen Pakistan’s ability to host major global events.
As part of the broader SCO preparation plan, Naqvi directed authorities to accelerate beautification projects, improve roads, and upgrade public facilities in Islamabad. He also ordered the completion of six new police stations within 45 days and sought a comprehensive plan to commercialize the Islamabad Expressway to spur economic activity.
CDA Chairman Muhammad Ali Randhawa briefed the meeting that tenders had been issued for 10 additional police stations, while work on the new Parliament Lodges block was progressing as scheduled. He added that piling for the T-Chowk Flyover had been completed, the foundation stone for Shaheen Chowk would soon be laid, and restoration of the Pak Secretariat’s R-Block was nearing completion.
Senior officials, including the Deputy Commissioner Islamabad and members of relevant departments, also attended the meeting.
