Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has approved a series of new road schemes and directed authorities to expedite work on ongoing infrastructure projects across the province.
Chairing a review meeting on the road sector, the chief minister was informed that PKR 125 billion had been allocated under the Chief Minister’s Initiative, the Local Roads Programme and projects nearing completion. Officials said 99% of the development funds earmarked for the road sector had been utilised.
The meeting was told that the Local Roads Programme comprises 1,567 schemes worth PKR 79 billion, covering around 3,400 kilometres. Of these, 1,129 schemes have been completed within 75 days.

Officials also informed the meeting that PKR 11 billion had been saved through road restoration projects. They said the 93.5-kilometre Multan-Vehari dual carriageway, the 24-kilometre Faisalabad-Chiniot dual carriageway and the 13-kilometre Tourism Highway have been completed.
The meeting was further informed that restoration work on all 124 roads damaged by floods has been completed.
During the meeting, Maryam Nawaz approved the establishment of six additional service areas under the Punjab Ring Road Authority. According to officials, the facilities are expected to generate annual revenue of around PKR 500 million.
