Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Tuesday directed authorities to formulate a comprehensive strategy for developing both vertical and horizontal housing projects under the Prime Minister Apna Ghar Scheme.
Chairing a high-level meeting to review progress on the housing initiative, the prime minister stressed the need for practical and sustainable housing solutions to meet the needs of the country’s growing population.
The meeting was informed that banks had so far approved housing finance worth Rs204 billion under the scheme, while Rs27 billion had already been disbursed.
The prime minister said the scheme was launched to help low- and middle-income groups own homes and directed relevant authorities to accelerate its implementation.
He also called on public and private sector banks to increase financing support to expand access to housing loans for deserving families.
The meeting was informed that the Ministry of Housing and Works and the State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) were conducting weekly reviews to monitor the scheme’s progress and address implementation issues. Sharif said providing affordable housing to ordinary citizens was among the government’s key priorities and stressed the need for effective coordination among relevant institutions to ensure the programme’s timely and successful implementation.
The meeting was attended by Finance Minister Muhammad Aurangzeb, Housing and Works Minister Riaz Pirzada, Minister of State for Finance and Railways Bilal Kayani and senior government officials.
