Lahore: Lahore Police have introduced a new security mechanism for ride-hailing services, under which all online taxi drivers will be required to undergo police verification before and during employment to enhance passenger safety.
According to Deputy Inspector General (Operations) Faisal Kamran, individuals with criminal records will not be allowed to work as drivers for online taxi and ride-hailing platforms under the revised system.
As part of the new policy, character certificates have been made mandatory for all drivers operating with ride-hailing companies in the city.
Under an agreement between Lahore Police and major online taxi service providers, driver data has been integrated with police databases to help identify suspicious individuals more effectively.

Officials said all new drivers will undergo compulsory police verification prior to recruitment, while existing drivers’ records are also being reviewed to ensure compliance with safety standards.
Ride-hailing companies have been directed to fully implement the new security framework, with authorities warning of strict action in case of non-compliance.
Police officials said the initiative aims to strengthen passenger safety and improve monitoring of individuals operating within the city’s online transport sector.
