Lahore: The Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) has stepped up enforcement against tax defaulters across the province, confiscating records from 15 cafés, restaurants, and marquees found misreporting or withholding sales tax collected from customers.
According to a PRA spokesperson, enforcement teams conducted inspections in Lahore, Gujranwala, and Sargodha, targeting several well-known fast-food and café chains. Additional checks were carried out in Gujranwala, Rahim Yar Khan, and Bahawalpur, where records of restaurants and marquees were also seized.

The spokesperson confirmed that four marquees, five cafés, and six restaurants had their records confiscated, warning that heavy penalties will be imposed on businesses that collect tax from customers but fail to deposit it into the government treasury.
Dedicated PRA teams have been deployed across Punjab to ensure compliance and recover revenue from non-filers and defaulters. Officials noted that tax revenue collection has increased compared to the previous fiscal year, and clarified that no new taxes or rate hikes have been introduced by the Punjab government during the current financial year.
The authority emphasized that the intensified crackdown is part of its ongoing efforts to enforce transparency and accountability in business operations and to strengthen provincial tax compliance.
