Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has decided to expand the Safe City project to 13 districts across the province, including several merged districts, as part of efforts to strengthen security monitoring and crime prevention.
According to budget documents for the upcoming fiscal year, PKR 5.8 billion has been allocated for the expansion of the project, while an additional PKR 350 million has been earmarked for the establishment of a command and control centre in Peshawar.
The rollout will extend the Safe City initiative beyond Peshawar to South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Orakzai, Kurram, Khyber, Mohmand, Bajaur, Kohat, Tank, Mardan, Swat, Karak and Mansehra.

Under the proposed implementation plan, Phase One will cover South Waziristan, North Waziristan, Orakzai and Kurram, with a proposed allocation of PKR 1.8 billion. In Phase Two, the project will be expanded to Khyber, Mohmand and Bajaur.
Budget documents also propose an additional PKR 700 million for the ongoing Peshawar Safe City project, on which more than PKR 2 billion has already been spent.
For other districts, PKR 500 million has been allocated for Safe City projects in Kohat, Mardan and Swat, while PKR 350 million has been earmarked for Karak and Tank. An initial allocation of PKR 20 million has been proposed for the project in Mansehra.
The Safe City initiative aims to improve surveillance capabilities, support law enforcement agencies and enhance public security through the use of modern monitoring and communication systems.
