Karachi: Sindh has sought stronger partnership with the World Bank (WB) for future transport, infrastructure and urban development projects, including a proposed high-speed rail link between Karachi and Sukkur and a modern freight rail corridor.
The proposals were discussed during a meeting between a World Bank delegation and Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon, who also holds the transport and information portfolios, according to a government statement.

The minister briefed the delegation on the progress of the under-construction Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line project in Karachi, saying the provincial government was working to complete it within the prescribed timeline and according to required standards.
He said close coordination among all relevant institutions was essential to ensure the timely completion of major development projects and delivery of their benefits to the public.
Sharjeel Memon said the Sindh government wanted to further strengthen its longstanding cooperation with the World Bank and sought the institution’s support for upcoming transport, infrastructure and urban development initiatives.
He also proposed a high-speed train service between Karachi and Sukkur, saying the project would improve connectivity, facilitate commercial activity and contribute to the province’s economic development. He added that the provincial government was seeking investment from international financial institutions, including the World Bank, as well as private investors for the project.

The minister further outlined plans for a modern freight rail service connecting Maripur with the Northern Bypass to improve cargo movement from Karachi Port. He said the project would help reduce traffic congestion, lower freight costs and improve the efficiency of the country’s logistics network.
