Karachi: The Sindh government and the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Planning, Development and Special Initiatives have set June 2027 as the target for completing five major road infrastructure projects across the province, with a combined revised cost of PKR 140.91 billion.
The deadline was agreed during a high-level meeting chaired by Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to review progress on federally funded road schemes being executed under the Public Sector Development Programme (PSDP) in collaboration with the provincial government.

The meeting was attended by members of the National Assembly Standing Committee, led by Chairman Syed Abdul Qadir Gilani, along with provincial ministers and senior officials.
According to officials, the revised cost of the five projects stands at PKR 140.91 billion, of which the federal government will provide PKR 96.75 billion, while the Sindh government will contribute PKR 44.15 billion.
The projects under review include the 36-kilometre Sindh Coastal Highway extension, the 150-kilometre Mehran Highway, the 31.4-kilometre Tando Allahyar-Tando Adam dual carriageway, the 135-kilometre Sanghar-Rohri Road (Nawabshah-Ranipur dualisation) and the 221-kilometre Rohri-Guddu Road.
Officials informed the meeting that work is progressing across all five schemes. Construction has commenced on the Coastal Highway extension after the issuance of the work order in June 2026, while asphalt base work has been completed on 44 kilometres of the Mehran Highway.
Work is also underway on the Tando Allahyar-Tando Adam dual carriageway, although utility relocation, transmission line shifting and pending approvals from Pakistan Railways remain key challenges. Construction continues on the Sanghar-Rohri Road, while widening and base work have been completed on major sections of the Rohri-Guddu Road, where asphalt laying is expected to begin soon.

Speaking at the meeting, Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah said modern road infrastructure was essential for improving connectivity, facilitating trade and supporting economic growth across the province.
“These are not just roads but economic corridors that will connect different areas, promote trade and create new opportunities for development across Sindh,” he said.
The chief minister directed the relevant departments to resolve issues related to utility shifting, regulatory approvals and funding on a priority basis, while emphasising the need for the timely release of federal PSDP funds to keep the projects on schedule.
