Karachi: The Sindh government has announced a major development package for Karachi, allocating a total of PKR 108.1 billion for various city-wide schemes in the provincial budget for fiscal year 2026-27.
Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, while presenting the budget in the Sindh Assembly on Wednesday, said the government has given special priority to Karachi’s development, focusing on infrastructure, transport, water supply, sanitation, health and education sectors.

According to budget documents, the allocation falls under multiple ongoing and new development initiatives aimed at addressing the city’s long-standing infrastructure challenges.
Under the “Mega Project for Karachi City” head, funds have been allocated for several key infrastructure schemes. These include PKR 420 million for a flyover from Airport Road to Star Gate, PKR 525 million for a right-turn underpass from Malir Halt to Shahrah-e-Faisal, and PKR 825 million for a flyover at Sir Shah Suleman Road over Gujjar Nullah.
The budget also provides PKR 1 billion for two underpasses at Khayaban-i-Shahbaz and Khayaban-i-Ittehad in DHA, while additional funding has been earmarked for ongoing projects including Shahrah-i-Bhutto–Korangi Causeway junction, Azeempura flyover, and interchanges linked with the Malir Expressway.
In the water and sanitation sector, PKR 1 billion has been allocated for the Greater Karachi Sewerage Plan (S-III), along with PKR 575.6 million for K-IV augmentation work. Funds have also been set aside for upgrading water pumping stations in eastern and central districts, rehabilitation of the trunk main network, and construction of a new water supply line along the Lyari Expressway.
For transport, over PKR 3.5 billion has been allocated for the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) Yellow Line, while PKR 697 million has been earmarked for the BRT Red Line project.
The budget further includes PKR 10 million each for six modern garbage transfer stations and upgrades to landfill sites at Jam Chakro and Gond Pass.
Additional allocations include PKR 1 billion for the establishment of a Provincial Civil Services Academy, a new Sindh Revenue Board training academy and office complex, and improvements to commercial centres and markets across Karachi.

According to the chief minister, Karachi’s development portfolio comprises 816 schemes with a total estimated cost of PKR 644.3 billion. He said PKR 100.19 billion has been earmarked specifically for city-based projects in the upcoming fiscal year, while overall allocations including citywide initiatives amount to PKR 108.1 billion.
The chief minister added that 167 ongoing projects costing more than PKR 500 million each and 110 mega projects valued above PKR 1 billion are currently under implementation across the city, aimed at improving urban infrastructure and municipal services.
