Karachi: The Sindh government has approved the construction of a new bridge linking Sukkur and Rohri to improve connectivity and ease growing traffic congestion in the region.
The approval was granted during the 51st meeting of the Public-Private Partnership (PPP) Policy Board, chaired by Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah at the Chief Minister’s House. The project will be executed under the PPP model by the Sindh Local Government Department.
Officials said the new bridge will serve as an alternative route to the historic Lansdowne Bridge, which currently handles the bulk of traffic between the two cities. With more than 30,000 vehicles using the bridge ежедневно, congestion has intensified, particularly as traffic restrictions limit the movement of heavy vehicles.

The proposed bridge will be constructed north of Bukkur Island and will span approximately 1.5 kilometres. It will feature multiple lanes to accommodate commercial traffic, along with dedicated pedestrian pathways.
The initiative aims to support smoother movement between Sukkur, Rohri, and surrounding areas, where daily commuting for work, education, and business has significantly increased. Authorities said the project is expected to play a key role in improving traffic flow and supporting economic activity across the corridor.
Funding has been approved under the Project Development Facility (PDF) for the hiring of consultants, marking the initial phase of the project’s development.
