Lahore: With preparations for Basant 2026 gaining momentum in Lahore, police have finalised a comprehensive security plan and declared 40 locations across the city as red zones to prevent accidents and ensure public safety during the festival.
Authorities identified the red zones based on previous incidents involving sharp kite strings, which have caused injuries and fatalities in past years. Joint teams of police and traffic police will be deployed in these areas to enforce safety measures and maintain law and order.

Checkpoints will be set up across the city to ensure that motorcyclists install protective wires on their vehicles, reducing the risk of injuries from metal- or glass-coated kite strings. Enhanced monitoring in the red zone areas will be conducted with the support of Safe City Authority surveillance cameras.
The transportation and manufacturing of kites currently remain banned throughout Lahore. Officials said that permission for kite-making will only be granted following a formal government notification, and any violations of the rules will be met with a zero-tolerance policy.
Authorities emphasised that the security plan is aimed at safeguarding lives, preventing accidents, and maintaining law and order during the festival, while ensuring a safe environment for residents and visitors alike.
