Lahore: The Punjab government has achieved a major milestone in its flagship low-cost housing initiative, Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar, by surpassing the target of 50,000 home loans disbursed across the province.
According to official data released on Monday, a total of 51,911 loans have been issued under the scheme as of June 2025. These loans — amounting to PKR 57.9 billion — are being extended to eligible applicants for the construction of homes under one of the largest state-backed housing drives in Punjab’s history.
The provincial government confirmed that 5,293 houses have already been completed and occupied, while the construction of an additional 41,324 homes is progressing at a rapid pace.

This achievement marks a national record, as Punjab becomes the first province to facilitate the construction of over 50,000 homes within a few months. The government emphasized that the scheme is rooted in transparency and accessibility — with applicants able to apply for loans online without the need for physical visits or political references.
Commenting on the success of the initiative, Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif stated that the objective is to provide ease and dignity to the public by enabling affordable homeownership. “This is not just about houses; this is about restoring hope, stability, and opportunity for thousands of families,” she said.
She also reiterated that political affiliation plays no role in loan approval. “Every applicant is being facilitated purely on merit,” she affirmed.
The project allows citizens to apply digitally from their homes, significantly reducing bureaucratic hurdles. Residents have praised the scheme as a “blessing,” citing its simplicity and the government’s commitment to delivering results without favoritism.

Maryam Nawaz credited the project’s momentum to the leadership vision of PML-N leader Nawaz Sharif, whose long-standing emphasis on public service is now materializing through large-scale housing delivery.
The Chief Minister concluded by saying, “We have set a new precedent in Punjab’s history and will continue to surpass our own records in the service of the people.”
