Abbottabad: The Abbottabad Interchange project has received fresh approval following a review process involving the Central Development Working Party (CDWP), paving the way for construction work to begin in the near future.
According to former federal minister Murtaza Javed Abbasi, the project was originally announced by Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif in 2022 and tendered in 2023.
According to Abbasi, the project encountered delays after a significant increase in the estimated cost of land acquisition. He said PKR 600 million had already been released for the scheme, while the cost of acquiring 119 kanals of land was initially estimated at PKR 115 million However, the district administration later revised the land acquisition cost to PKR 810 million, prompting the project’s referral to the CDWP for review.

Following the review process, the project received fresh approval from the National Highway Authority’s Departmental Development Committee, allowing it to move forward. Abbasi said construction work on the long-pending interchange is expected to commence soon, while the inauguration is likely to be carried out by the prime minister.
The proposed interchange is expected to improve traffic flow and connectivity for Abbottabad and surrounding areas, including parts of Mansehra and Haripur.
