Peshawar: The cost of the Peshawar Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) has increased from PKR 49 billion to more than PK 68 billion because of continuous changes in its design and adjustments to the Asian Development Bank (ADB) funds, according to a news report. This report was presented during the provincial cabinet’s last meeting on 24th May 2018.
This meeting was headed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Chief Minister Pervez Khattak and attended by various ministers and administrative secretaries. The revised form of BRT’s PC-1 was discussed at a special meeting of the Provincial Working Party (PDWP) on 23rd May 2018, while the Peshawar Development Authority (PDA) Director General Israrul Haq briefed the cabinet about this on 24th May 2018.
The PDA chief informed the meeting that the BRT was a multi-faceted project including construction of drains and various other traffic roads. Haq gave details of expenditures including PKR 30 billion for the construction of 27 kilometres long BRT corridor, PKR 7.5 billion for the purchase of new buses, PKR 2.4 billion as duties for vehicles, PKR 8.5 billion for commercial plazas, PKR 1 billion for fleet scrapping, PKR 1.5 billion for utilities relocation, PKR 1.5 billion for land cost and PKR 11 billion for the improvement of provincial capital roads.
