Islamabad: A two-day Digital Foreign Direct Investment (DFDI) Forum began in Islamabad on Tuesday, with the aim of showcasing Pakistan’s potential for investment in the startup and IT sectors. The event, which is expected to attract key players from the digital and tech industries, focuses on promoting foreign investment in the country’s rapidly growing IT market.
Minister for Information Technology, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, speaking to the foreign media on Monday, revealed that Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif will be the chief guest at the opening session of the forum. The Minister emphasized the growth of Pakistan’s IT industry, highlighting that IT exports have been rising at a robust pace, with growth rates between 24 and 27 percent. This fiscal year, IT exports are projected to reach $4 billion, marking a significant milestone for the sector.

Looking ahead, the government is aiming for a $25 billion economic impact from the IT industry over the next four years. “The goal is to create a more transparent and efficient economy, and digital payments will be a key factor in this transformation,” said Minister Shaza Fatima Khawaja.
The Digital FDI Forum is expected to serve as a key platform for attracting investment and building strong international partnerships to further develop Pakistan’s digital and technology landscape.
