Lahore: The federal government has announced its decision to initiate the ‘Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme’ SMS service from next week onwards, a news source reported.
The said facility would help low-income households affected by the novel coronavirus lockdown in the country to register for receiving cash stipend of PKR 12,000.
To help low-income families during the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had announced a four-month advance cash stipend under the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme.
Ehsaas Programme Chairperson Sania Nishtar said that the ‘Ehsaas SMS service’ would begin next week, through which the novel coronavirus-affected families would share CNIC numbers. She added that in collaboration with the National Database & Registration Authority (NADRA), the government would identify the deserving families.
Nishtar revealed that after receiving CNIC numbers via the Ehsaas SMS service, they would use a two-layered filtration system. She added that the first layer would use the parameters like bank balance and occupation. People identified as less affluent would then receive a SMS message back confirming their eligibility.
The message would contain details of banks to visit for withdrawing the allotted funds to the deserving families under the Ehsaas Emergency Cash Programme. The programme’s chairperson also highlighted that the government had relaxed the eligibility criteria for the fund. She added that now 2.5 million more people would become part of the database after screening.
