Peshawar: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has approved 17 tourism road projects involving the construction and rehabilitation of 91.5 kilometres of roads to improve access to major tourist destinations across the province.
Special Assistant to the Chief Minister for Tourism Malik Adeel Iqbal said Chief Minister Muhammad Sohail Khan Afridi had approved the projects as part of the provincial government’s efforts to promote tourism as a driver of economic growth and local development.
Around PKR 5 billion will be invested in the projects, which will cover major tourist areas in Upper Chitral, Swat, Upper Dir and Lower Dir.
The improved road network is expected to provide easier access for domestic and international tourists, strengthen connectivity to scenic valleys and improve travel infrastructure in the province.
According to the tourism department, the projects are also expected to support local businesses, hotels, restaurants and transport services by increasing tourist activity. The improved connectivity could also create new employment and investment opportunities and contribute to the socio-economic development of the province.
The government said the projects were part of broader efforts to strengthen the tourism sector and promote sustainable tourism across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
