Karachi: The federal and Sindh governments have moved forward with plans for a new M-10 motorway route that will directly connect Karachi Port to Hyderabad, aiming to streamline freight traffic and ease congestion on existing road networks.
In a high-level meeting held in Karachi, Federal Minister for Communications Aleem Khan met with Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah to discuss key infrastructure projects, including the delayed Hyderabad–Sukkur Motorway (M-6), the new M-10 route, and improvements to the Lyari Expressway.

According to officials, the new M-10 motorway will begin at the ICI Bridge near Karachi Port Trust (KPT), pass through Gulbai and Hub Chowki, and connect to Hyderabad. The route is being planned to facilitate heavy port-related traffic and offer a more efficient alternative to the existing Karachi–Hyderabad corridor.
The session also reviewed the existing issues with the Lyari Expressway. An audit conducted by the National Highway Authority (NHA) declared it unsuitable for heavy vehicles. Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah stressed the need to improve interchanges and build a separate service road at Sohrab Goth to segregate local and heavy traffic. “The original purpose of the Lyari Expressway—to link port traffic to the motorway—was never fully realised,” the CM stated.
On the M-6 front, the Sindh CM expressed concern over the project’s delay and offered bridge financing of up to PKR 50 billion to fast-track its implementation. Aleem Khan responded by noting that the M-6 has been divided into five sections, three of which have secured funding, while work on the remaining two is underway.
