Lahore: The Metropolitan Corporation Lahore (MCL) is planning to remodel the city’s roads to regulate traffic and avoid heavy congestion at various junctions, a news source reported. As per the publication, Gamay Shah Chowk, Bhati Chowk, and Data Darbar Chowk would be remodelled and restructured in the first phase of the project.
The MCL will acquire 10-kanal land for its new traffic plan. During the restructuring work, Gamay Shah Chowk, Bhati Chowk, and Data Darbar Chowk would remain closed and the traffic flowing from lower mall would be channelled towards Data Darbar Chowk. Traffic coming from Kutchery Road and the Mall will be directed to new alternative routes from Gamay Shah Chowk. Additionally, traffic from Circular Road to Bhaati Chowk will be diverted to Pir Makki Mazar and Kutchery Road after the completion of the work.
Cabins of Safe City cameras, signboards, traffic signals, electric poles points, and trees will be shifted and dividers will be constructed on the main roads. The MCL has estimated that an area encompassing 263,000 square-feet would have to be remodelled under the current project.
