Murree: The Punjab Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) has approved the deployment of rescue and relief equipment to Murree as the hill station braces for rain and snowfall expected from Saturday into Sunday, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD).
In a Thursday meeting, Provincial Health Minister and Chairman of the Cabinet Committee for Disaster Management, Khwaja Salman Rafique, alongside PDMA Director General Irfan Ali Kathia and other officials reviewed and finalized emergency readiness plans.quipment including search-and-rescue jackets, snow chains for vehicles, mechanical saws, winter tents, raincoats, quilts, warm gloves, umbrellas and hats have been sent to support local authorities and emergency teams.

“The arrangements for the anticipated snowfall have been completed,” the minister told media representatives, adding that snow-fighting equipment is being provided to the Murree administration as part of ongoing efforts to minimise loss of life and property. He emphasised that early preparation can help avert tragedies.
The PMD forecast indicates that a westerly weather system will affect northern and western parts of the country starting Saturday, bringing rain with wind, thunderstorms, and snowfall over hilly areas including Murree and Galiyat, through Sunday.
Residents and visitors are being urged to stay informed of weather updates, prepare for rapidly changing conditions, and avoid unnecessary travel in affected areas as authorities continue to monitor the situation and coordinate emergency responses.
