Islamabad: The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) has issued a fresh flood alert for multiple regions of the country, warning of urban flooding, flash floods and hill torrents as persistent monsoon rains continue across northern, central and southern Pakistan.
In an advisory issued through the National Emergencies Operation Centre (NEOC), the NDMA directed provincial authorities to complete evacuation preparations in vulnerable areas, pre-position emergency resources and advise the public to avoid unnecessary travel and flood-prone locations.
The authority warned that urban flooding is likely in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Jhelum, Gujranwala, Sargodha, Mandi Bahauddin, Sialkot, Gujrat, Narowal, Lahore and Faisalabad in Punjab; Peshawar, Nowshera, Charsadda and Mardan in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa; and Mirpurkhas, Umerkot and Tharparkar in Sindh.
Flash floods are expected in parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Punjab and northeastern Balochistan, while hill torrents may affect Mianwali, Dera Ghazi Khan and Rajanpur.
The NDMA also warned of rising water levels in rivers and seasonal streams across Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmir, with several districts in both regions placed on alert for possible flash flooding. It further cautioned that landslides and mudslides remain a significant risk in mountainous areas during the ongoing monsoon season.
The authority instructed local administrations to move rescue equipment and emergency resources to high-risk areas in advance and ensure evacuation arrangements for vulnerable communities.
It advised residents, tourists and travellers to stay away from rivers, streams and flood channels, avoid crossing submerged roads, bridges or fast-flowing water, and monitor the latest weather forecasts and road conditions before travelling. The public was also urged to stay updated through the Pak NDMA Disaster Alert mobile application.
