Karachi: The Oil & Gas Development Company Limited (OGDCL) has announced a significant hydrocarbon discovery at its exploratory well Faakir-1 in the Khairpur district of Sindh. The development was disclosed in a notice to the Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) on Thursday.
The Faakir-1 well, operated by OGDCL with a 95% working interest and Government Holdings (Private) Limited (GHPL) holding the remaining 5%, was drilled to a depth of 4,185 meters in the Sembar Formation. Drilling commenced on December 31, 2024, and was completed using OGDCL’s in-house expertise, in collaboration with GHPL.
The company conducted two Drill Stem Tests (DSTs) in the Lower Goru Formation, focusing on massive sand intervals. The results confirmed the presence of commercially viable reserves, with a tested daily production of 6.4 million cubic feet of gas and 55 barrels of condensate through a choke size of 32/64 inches.

This discovery, made under the Bitrisim Exploration Licence, is expected to enhance the commercial potential of the exploration block and extend the life of the license. It also contributes to strengthening OGDCL’s domestic hydrocarbon portfolio.
OGDCL stated that the find would support national energy needs by adding to Pakistan’s indigenous gas reserves and help reduce reliance on imported fuels. This latest development builds on the company’s previous success in the region, following a natural gas discovery at the Shahu-1 well, also in Khairpur, last year.
The company reaffirmed its commitment to exploring domestic energy sources to help bridge Pakistan’s energy gap and drive sustainable economic growth.
