Lahore: Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif has announced a special incentives package for local and foreign investors and given in-principle approval for establishing a Green Industrial Economic Zone in the province.
The decision was taken during a meeting with a delegation of the Overseas Pakistanis Foundation (OPF), led by its Chairman Syed Qamar Raza, who briefed the chief minister on the proposed project.

The economic zone will be developed through a partnership between the OPF and Green Energy Group, with a focus on clean energy, industrial growth, exports and employment generation.
According to the briefing, the project will feature renewable energy infrastructure based on solar, wind, hydropower and ground-source energy, along with battery storage and high-voltage backup systems to provide industries with a reliable and sustainable power supply.
The project is expected to create more than 18,000 direct and indirect jobs, generate annual revenue of over PKR5.6 billion and support environmentally friendly exports. Officials said the initiative would also contribute to economic development and help reduce carbon emissions in line with Pakistan’s net-zero goals.
Maryam said Punjab was ready to welcome investment from all sectors and assured investors of the provincial government’s support. She highlighted the Zero Time to Start policy, aimed at enabling businesses to commence operations without unnecessary delays, as well as a one-window system to facilitate approvals and other official processes.
