Islamabad: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar will visit Shanghai, China, from July 16 to 17 to participate in the establishment of the World Artificial Intelligence Cooperation Organization (WAICO), with Pakistan set to become one of its founding members.
According to the Foreign Office, Dar will attend the signing ceremony for the establishment of WAICO on July 16 and sign the founding agreement on Pakistan’s behalf, formally making the country a founding member of the new global AI platform.
On July 17, he will participate in the opening ceremony of the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference and attend a high-level meeting on global AI governance, where international leaders and policymakers will discuss the future of artificial intelligence cooperation.
During the visit, Dar is also scheduled to hold a bilateral meeting with Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi and meet other foreign ministers and senior officials to discuss issues of mutual interest and ways to expand international cooperation.
Pakistan will use the forum to highlight the importance of greater global collaboration in artificial intelligence, with a focus on improving access to advanced technologies, strengthening capacity building and supporting the development priorities of countries in the Global South.
