Islamabad: The Economic Affairs Division (EAD) and the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank have signed a loan agreement for Phase-IA of the reconstruction of National Highway N-5 under Pakistan’s Resilient Recovery, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Framework Project.
The agreement, valued at USD 320.16 million, will support the reconstruction of critical sections of the N-5 highway passing through Punjab, Sindh and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, a key transport corridor linking major regions of the country.
The loan agreement was signed by Muhammad Humair Karim Kidwai and Konstantin Limitovskiy in the presence of Ahad Khan Cheema. A separate project agreement was also signed between the AIIB and the National Highway Authority (NHA).

Officials said the project will strengthen transport infrastructure, improve regional connectivity and support economic activity through the rehabilitation of one of Pakistan’s most important highway networks.
The N-5 reconstruction will be carried out using modern and climate-resilient infrastructure standards to improve long-term durability and operational efficiency.
