Quetta, Jan 20 (APP): Federal Minister for Railways Hanif Abbasi and Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti have reached an understanding to launch the People’s Train Service in Quetta and advance several joint railway development projects in the province.
The meeting, held at the Chief Minister’s Secretariat in Quetta, focused on restoring the railway system in Balochistan, enhancing local rail services, and establishing new infrastructure through joint initiatives between the federal and provincial governments.
As part of the agreement, Rs 1.4 billion has been allocated this week for the implementation of the People’s Train Service in Quetta. The project aims to provide safe, affordable, and quality travel for the residents of the province, combining federal support with provincial leadership.

Highlighting the significance of the collaboration, Minister Abbasi said, “For the first time in Pakistan Railways’ 78-year history, a historic decision has been taken at the provincial level for devolution, showcasing trust and cooperation between the federation and provinces. Balochistan has taken the lead, reflecting the vision and effective leadership of Chief Minister Bugti.”
Chief Minister Bugti added that the provincial government is fully committed to the rapid and practical implementation of the People’s Train Service. Plans include constructing new railway stations and upgrading existing infrastructure, with provincial resources supporting these developments.
The People’s Train Service is expected to serve as a milestone project, enhancing connectivity within Balochistan and providing a reliable alternative for daily commuters and travelers.
