The service was inaugurated alongside the expansion of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) system, including the solarisation of the Chamkani Depot and the establishment of the Mall of Hayatabad Depot in Peshawar.
During the inauguration ceremony, officials highlighted that the new hybrid buses have been introduced to address the transportation needs of women passengers. In the first phase, five Pink Buses will operate on selected routes during peak hours, with plans to gradually expand the service and routes. Women passengers will also receive a 25% lower fare compared to regular bus services.
The government also announced further expansion of the BRT network, with the addition of 52 new buses, increasing the total fleet to 296 buses. Officials stated that the BRT system currently facilitates around 250,000 commuters daily, with women making up nearly 30% of total passengers.
