Lahore: The Punjab government on Tuesday launched a digital municipal billing system, allowing citizens to pay municipal charges and bills conveniently through mobile banking and digital wallets. The initiative covers all 229 local government bodies across the province.
The e-billing system was formally inaugurated by Provincial Minister for Local Government Zeeshan Rafique and Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman. Also present at the ceremony were Local Government Secretary Shakeel Ahmad Mian, Suthra Punjab Authority Director General Babar Sahib Din, and officials from the Bank of Punjab (BOP).
Developed jointly by the Punjab Information Technology Board (PITB) and BOP, the system enables the bank to collect dues on behalf of local governments, including building plan fees, shop rents, and water charges.

Speaking at the event, Minister Rafique highlighted that the initiative is part of the provincial government’s broader digital governance agenda, aimed at making payments more transparent, accessible, and time-efficient.
Chief Secretary Zahid Akhtar Zaman emphasized the importance of information technology in improving governance and service delivery, praising the collaboration between government departments and the banking sector.
Shields were presented to teams from BOP and PITB in recognition of their efforts in implementing the province-wide e-billing system.
The launch marks a significant step toward digitizing public services in Punjab, reducing the need for in-person visits to municipal offices and long queues for payments.
