Lahore: The Punjab government has finalised a comprehensive free transport plan for citizens during the Basant celebrations in Lahore, aimed at easing mobility and reducing traffic congestion across the city.
The plan was approved by the Lahore Division Commissioner and will remain in effect throughout the Basant festivities. Under the arrangement, commuters will be able to travel free of cost on the Metro Bus Service and the Orange Line Metro Train.

According to officials, the Punjab Mass Transit Authority, Punjab Transport Company, and private ride-hailing operators will jointly implement the plan. In addition, buses have been requisitioned from government colleges and universities to supplement public transport services during the festival period.
Free transport facilities will be available on 24 routes across Lahore. A total of 228 buses will operate on feeder routes, while 64 Metro Bus Service vehicles will also provide free travel. Moreover, 54 buses from government colleges and 73 buses from universities will be deployed to support commuter movement.
The Orange Line Metro Train is expected to carry around 250,000 passengers daily, while the Metro Bus Service from Gajjumata to Shahdara is projected to facilitate approximately 87,000 commuters per day. Feeder routes are expected to serve an additional 127,000 passengers daily.

Several dedicated routes have been announced, including Rana Town to Railway Station, RA Bazar to Chungi, Bhatti Chowk to Shadbagh, Depot Chowk to Chungi, and Canal to Jinnah Terminal, along with multiple other routes connecting major residential and commercial areas.
Overall, the transport plan is designed to provide free travel to an estimated 516,000 people daily through buses, with an additional 5,000 branded rickshaws also expected to offer free rides during Basant celebrations.
