Karachi: The Sindh government has directed relevant institutions to prepare a joint, time-bound action plan to address Karachi’s longstanding infrastructure and civic issues, including encroachments, traffic congestion, water supply, sewage and waste management.
The directives were issued at a high-level meeting jointly chaired by Sindh Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah and Local Government Minister Nasir Hussain Shah on Saturday. Karachi Mayor Barrister Murtaza Wahab, Planning Board Chairman, Commissioner Karachi, Additional Chief Secretary Local Government, Karachi Police Chief, DIG Traffic and other officials attended the meeting.
The meeting reviewed the city’s infrastructure, encroachments, traffic, water supply, sewage, waste management and illegal construction.
Chief Secretary Asif Hyder Shah said Karachi’s problems could not be resolved through the efforts of any single institution and called for coordinated planning among relevant departments. He directed officials to propose permanent solutions rather than relying on temporary campaigns. The chief secretary also directed institutions to coordinate their work to prevent repeated excavation of newly constructed roads.
