Islamabad: Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif has announced a series of subsidies for the transport sector to offset the impact of rising fuel prices and prevent an increase in fares.
Under the new measures, the government will provide monthly subsidies across multiple transport categories. Trucks will receive PKR 70,000, passenger buses PKR 100,000, mini-buses and wagons PKR 40,000, cargo vehicles PKR 80,000, and delivery vans PKR 35,000.
The subsidies will be disbursed through digital wallets to ensure transparency and efficient distribution.
The prime minister said transporters would not be allowed to raise fares despite the increase in fuel prices, warning of penalties for violations.

He added that the initiative is part of a broader relief effort, under which the government has provided PKR 129 billion over the past three weeks to support citizens facing economic pressure.
The package also includes a reduction in the petrol levy by PKR 80 per litre and a PKR 6 billion subsidy for Pakistan Railways to maintain current fares for passenger trains and cargo freight.
The Balochistan government has contributed to the relief package, with the federal government expecting other provinces to follow suit.
