Lahore: The Punjab government has allotted 2,000 free plots across 19 districts under the ‘Apni Zameen, Apna Ghar’ scheme, with successful applicants receiving their respective block and plot numbers through a computerised balloting process.
The balloting was conducted by Bilal Yasin, Punjab Housing Minister, in the presence of Noor-ul-Amin Mengal, Punjab Housing Secretary, and Sikandar Zeeshan, Director General of the Punjab Housing and Town Planning Agency (PHATA).

The minister said that in the coming days, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, Punjab Chief Minister, will formally distribute allotment letters to the beneficiaries. He emphasised that the plots are being provided completely free of cost and that beneficiaries will also be eligible to apply for interest-free loans under the complementary ‘Apni Chhat, Apna Ghar’ programme to construct their homes.
Officials noted that decades-old, unoccupied PHATA schemes have been transformed into public housing projects under this initiative. While private-sector land in surrounding areas is being sold at rates up to PKR 2.5 million per marla, the government has fulfilled its promise to provide housing to deserving families at no cost.
The plots were allotted through transparent balloting to individuals, including street vendors, shopkeepers, drivers, mechanics, and daily wage earners. Many beneficiaries expressed their gratitude, saying that receiving a free government plot without any recommendation exceeded their expectations.
Three-marla plots have been allocated in Jhelum, Kasur, Okara, Attock, Bhakkar, Layyah, Lodhran, Sahiwal, Rajanpur, Vehari, Chiniot, Jhang, Faisalabad, and Gujrat, while residents of Mandi Bahauddin, Bahawalpur, Bahawalnagar, Sargodha, and Khushab are also receiving plots under the scheme.

Officials said the initiative is expected to accelerate housing development, provide affordable homes to low-income families, and restore confidence in government-led public housing programmes.
